Counselling provides a unique opportunity for you to
discuss and reflect upon whatever issues are concerning you, whether they are happening currently or have happened in the
past.
• Individuals, couples and families can attend for counselling. Children and adolescents are usually
always seen with their family.
• Sessions last approximately one hour and the cost of each session is $140.
Students and low-income clients may be eligible for a fee reduction. Medicare Private rebate now available.
Parents
often consider consulting a counsellor about a child’s behaviour or difficulties at home or school. A family therapist
has post-graduate training to work with the whole family, as this tends to resolve issues more quickly. A shift in the way
parents work together, for example, can have far reaching effects for helping children to manage their behaviour both at home
and at school. Giving children a space to express how they see things can give parents new ideas about how to best meet their
child’s needs. Sessions with parents alone are also useful.
Good couple and family therapy should feel non-judgemental
and open up new ways of responding to behaviours and relationship difficulties that can feel entrenched. As an experienced
family therapist I can also offer ideas and parenting strategies to encourage families to try new approaches that have been
shown to help children to thrive, and parents to feel more in charge and in touch with their kids. I have experience with
both child and adolescent issues.
Experience I have over
20 years experience working in a variety of community, health, education and counselling positions. I have spent 7 years living
and working overseas and have a strong interest in working cross-culturally. My lived experience as a parent greatly informs
my work as a family therapist. My definition of family is broad and inclusive. I am an accredited provider of Triple P (Positive
Parenting Program) workshops and have spent 4 years working as a family therapist with a specialist adolescent family therapy
service in Sydney.
